Overcoming disadvantage:
An agenda for the next 20 years
The JRF has commissioned five leading think-tanks to offer their
long-term policy prescriptions for tackling disadvantage, with launch
events in London (3 February), Glasgow (20 February) and
Cardiff (27 February). Follow the link above for full details of

York events
A display stand about the three Trusts founded by Joseph Rowntree in
1904 tours York libraries.
During the summer term, two storytellers visit local schools to tell the story of Joseph Rowntree and his legacy.
On 1 October, 200 local children enjoy free ice creams and donkey rides and try out new play equipment in The Homestead Park, celebrating 100 years since Seebohm Rowntree first opened the fields behind his home to the public.

Reform Trust join JRF Trustees for a centenary celebration in The
Homestead gardens.
JRF Centenary Lecture, 8 July 2004
Gordon Brown, Chancellor of the Exchequer, gives the
Joseph Rowntree
Foundation centenary lecture.
Speaking at the event, Bruce Katz, Vice President of the Brookings
Institution in Washington DC and Visiting Professor at the LSE, outlines
the key lessons from American experience
for neighbourhood renewal policies in Britain.
JRF Centenary Conference, 13 and 14 December 2004
This conference is exploring Poverty and place: Policies for tomorrow.
Keynote speakers include Professor Jonathan Bradshaw on understanding
and overcoming poverty and Professor Suzanne Fitzpatrick on the poverty
of place. The conference will also see the launch of One hundred years
of poverty and policy, edited by Professor John Hills of the LSE.
