Education and poverty

Our new research shows the importance of children and parents' attitudes, aspiration and behaviours in the attainment gaps between richer and poorer children. It highlights four key areas:

  • The home learning environment for three year olds
  • Parents and children believing their own actions can make a difference to their lives
  • Aspirations for university (for parents of primary aged children as well as older ones)
  • Behaviour problems and bullying

However, the research doesn't tell us much about:

  • How far can these things be changed?
  • If we manage to change them, how much would results really improve?
  • What is currently being done at local and national levels, and how much difference is it making?
  • What other ideas should we be trying out?

Please tell us what you think below.
