An ageing society: how does low intensity support happen in relationships?
This call is for proposals for empirical research to explore relationships, trust and risk in an ageing society – and specifically relationships involving low intensity support (or as some describe it, 'that little bit of help').
Further information
We are interested in relationships where some form of low-intensity supportive behaviour takes place. Other terms for this type of behaviour might be 'small acts of kindness and support', 'that little bit of help' (e.g. with shopping or gardening, getting out, companionship, befriending), 'neighbourliness' or 'community kindnesses' – relationships where social as well as personal benefit and reciprocity play a big role. We do realise that there is still some way to go to carefully conceptualise these behaviours, but equally to describe them in 'easy language' that anchor them in their real-life context.
