The social justice implications of climate change in the UK

This call for proposals forms a key element of the JRF’s programme of work on Climate Change and Poverty in the UK, which aims to:

  • provide evidence on the social impacts and social justice implications of climate change in the UK, in order to inform our understanding and raise awareness of the consequences of climate change for vulnerable people and places; and
  • support the development of fair responses to climate change among policymakers, practitioners and communities undertaking mitigation and adaptation activity at a national and local level.

Further information

This is the first call for proposals to be issued for this work programme. It will support research which will build up the evidence base on both the social impacts and social justice implications of climate change in the UK. It will be followed by work in 2010 to support policy and practice responses to climate change on mitigation and adaptation and work in 2010-11 to support social and technical innovation.

It is intended that this research will provide an evidence base to help policymakers and practitioners to develop effective strategic responses to climate change that take account of poverty and disadvantage.
