Olive Bedford

Bedford Court is named in memory of Olive Bedford whose legacy to the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) has provided the majority of the funds for the development.

Olive was a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker). She died in 1997. She asked that her legacy be used to provide a residential care home in the area of Leeds, and that Quakers should receive preference in the allocation of places at the Home.

The JRHT also received small legacies for the same purpose from Olive’s close friend Madeline Phillips and Madeline’s sister, Isabel Phillips.
