A note on Google searching

As well as analysing the keyword content of a page when calculating its relevancy to a given search phrase, Google also takes into account the number of links from other websites to that page. Each link in effect acts as a 'vote' for the page, with 'votes' from top-ranking sites (such as the BBC) counting for more than links from lesser-ranked sites.
