Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust becomes 'one stop shop' for low-cost home ownership

31 March 2006

The Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) becomes the HomeBuy agent for North Yorkshire and Humberside from 1 April. First time buyers in the area, wanting to get a foot on the property ladder, will be able to contact the JRHT to register their interest in the HomeBuy range of low-cost ownership products.

Recently introduced by the Government, there are three parts to the HomeBuy scheme:

  1. Open Market HomeBuy where you buy a property with a mortgage and an interest free equity loan from a housing association.
  2. New Build HomeBuy where you buy a share in a new home built with the aid of public subsidy or grant.
  3. Social HomeBuy where housing association and local authority tenants are helped to buy or part-buy their current home.

As a HomeBuy agent, the JRHT will be working closely with local authorities, housing associations, and other developers in the area. The JRHT will assess the eligibility of people who register their interest before directing them to local schemes which best meet their needs.

More details on HomeBuy can be found on the JRHT website at www.jrht.org.uk.  Alternatively, people can ring 0800 633 5670 or email homebuy@jrht.org.uk.

The JRHT is one of 23 new HomeBuy agents covering the whole of England, announced by the Housing Minister, Yvette Cooper, on 28 March.
