Opportunity to learn more about healthier lifestyles

28 October 2008

Older people in Scarborough can watch demonstrations and get free advice on healthy activities such as yoga, meditation and reflexology at an open day being staged in the town on 6 November. The event is also an opportunity for people to learn more about the retirement community at Plaxton Court in Woodlands Drive, Scarborough.

Organisers say carers are also welcome to attend and they can get help and professional advice on issues such as benefits, optical care and diabetes at the event at Plaxton Court on Thursday 6 November between 11am and 3pm. A free buffet lunch is being provided.

General Manager Judith Hannah said: "This is a great opportunity for older people in the area to come along and enjoy the facilities and see what we have to offer.

"These include a range of social, leisure and wellbeing services and amenities for residents and non-residents, including a healthy living suite consisting of a fully-equipped gym and fitness classes, large restaurant and coffee shop, hair salon, arts and crafts, library and IT facilities.

"We also offer leisure day packages which are particularly suited to carers, who may need a break."

Communal facilities at Plaxton Court can also be booked for functions. For example, the restaurant can be used for weddings, anniversaries and birthdays. There’s also a conference suite available.

Plaxton Court was made possible thanks to the generous contribution made by the estate of Eric Plaxton and it is run by the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust.
