Hartrigg Oaks, the Continuing Care Retirement Community run by the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT), is re-opening its waiting list for people over 60 who are interested in moving into the innovative development at New Earswick in York.
The community, consisting of 152 one- and two-bedroom bungalows, as well as 42 bed-sitting rooms in a residential and nursing care centre, has been fully occupied since it opened six years ago. But after a year when the reserve list was closed, JRHT will be holding open days on 18th and 19th May for potential residents who want to view the accommodation and extensive communal facilities and hear more about the financial arrangements that include an entitlement to long-term care and support, if needed.
John Kennedy, JRHT’s Director of Care Services, said: “Hartrigg Oaks was the first Continuing Care Retirement Community in Britain when it opened and has proved very popular, attracting residents from all over the country, as well as York. People who live here may still be many years away from requiring the high level of home support or residential care that we are able to provide. But by moving to Hartrigg they become part of a vibrant and stimulating community, while enjoying the peace of mind that comes from knowing that their future care needs will be met.
“We do hope that couples and individuals over 60 will take advantage of the open days to see what we have to offer and take this opportunity to add their names to the reserve list.”
