Open day at Plaxton Court – Scarborough’s new retirement housing community

Members of the public are invited to an open day at Plaxton Court, the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust’s new supported housing development, on Saturday 9 February. This is an opportunity to view the high quality accommodation on offer and talk informally with staff from the Trust.

Plaxton Court has been developed with funding from the F W Plaxton Trust whose founder, Eric Plaxton, was the former Chairman of the Scarborough-based coach building company. The development is based on the innovative ‘extra care’ model, which aims to enable older people to maintain their independence within a vibrant community. As well as providing housing which has full wheelchair accessibility, there will be a range of social and leisure facilities on site, which includes a licensed restaurant and healthy living suite. In addition, care and support is available around the clock, making this development suitable for older people who need support, as well as those who wish to plan for their future needs.

John Kennedy, Director of Care Services for the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust said:

“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to develop Plaxton Court as we believe it brings much-needed services to the older population of Scarborough. We hope people will take the chance to visit us and find out more about the scheme and what it has to offer.”

Plaxton Court is proving popular. Many of the 69 apartments and cottages, available to purchase, part-purchase or rent, are already reserved ahead of the planned Spring opening.

Plaxton Court is located off Woodlands Drive, a short distance past the hospital. Doors will be open from 10:00am until 4:00pm. For further information contact the marketing office on 01723 341005.
