Community projects promoted in new Bradford guide
A guide to some of Bradford’s most exciting and innovative community-themed projects is being released by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation on 8 August 2008. The Bradford community guide provides an overview of more than 100 development projects and community initiatives across the region.
The publication will provide a valuable resource for people interested in learning lessons from community projects that are making a real contribution to the city. The guide covers:
- Culture – the role of community arts in strengthening cooperation and positive contact between neighbouring households, particularly across age and ethnic boundaries;
- Faith and cohesion – how religion can help build ‘good neighbours’ and support area regeneration, as well as examining how faith affects community relationships;
- Impact of migration on communities – how new migrants coming to Bradford relate to existing communities.
The web-based resource will include details on all of the organisations and ten in-depth case studies. It will be updated regularly with new projects and will be available at www.jrf.org.uk from 8 August 2008.
Bana Gora, Bradford Manager, said: “Over time, the guide will become a comprehensive resource for readers and researchers wanting to know more about Bradford, as well as for organisations within the area to share information and contacts.
“It gives an overview of current community projects and initiatives, while the online format means it can continuously evolve and is open to receiving information about other projects that are making a positive impact on the city.”
Community groups who want to be listed in the Bradford community guide should email JRF Bradford Adviser, Freda Shafi, at fredashafi@aol.com with an outline description of their project.
The publication of the guide is part of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s 10-year commitment to help make a positive difference to people living in Bradford.
Notes to Editors:
- The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is one of the largest social policy research and development charities in the UK. It supports a research and development programme that seeks to understand the causes of social difficulties and explore ways of overcoming them.
