Around 15,000 severely disabled children in the UK grow up with at least one brother or sister who is also disabled. This study is based on the findings of a qualitative study of 24 such families. The researchers explored the family life of these children, their parents and siblings, and identified their particular difficulties, needs and strategies for managing day-to-day.
They suggest ways in which services can become more responsive to the particular needs of these families, and each chapter includes 'practice points' for professionals.
