Parenting education has become a major theme of social policy discussions. This report looks at how effective open access parenting programmes are in helping parents bring up their children in a wide range of circumstances. The authors look in depth at the views of those involved: those who fund and provide progammes; parents who attend and those who, for various reasons, do not; and children themselves.

They show clearly what parents and professionals want from programmes and, setting this information in the context of current policy and practice, suggests key principles for future development.
