Lifetime Homes standards - design criteria which ensure that homes are designed flexibly enough to meet the needs of most households with the minimum of adaptation - are increasingly being adopted in the building of new homes. This project examined the extent to which the same standards could be applied to existing homes as part of a refurbishment programme. Looking at a pilot study of ten homes in York, it found that most residents welcomed improvements in line with Lifetime Homes standards.
