Summary findings from a programme promoting a socially inclusive approach to sustainable development in the UK.
It is often the most socially excluded communities which experience the greatest environmental inequalities. Since 1999, the JRF has supported a programme of work on reconciling environmental concerns and social policy. This paper reviews its main findings looking at:
- promoting environmental and social justice;
- defining environmental justice;
- local initiatives and sustainable communities;
- sustainable consumption and transport issues;
- equitable environmental taxes and charges; and
- where next for research, policy and practice.
