Self-employment and the distribution of income

The number of self-employed people in the UK nearly doubled during the 1980s. Detailed analysis of the income levels of the self-employed, and of older people who have been self-employed during their working lives, shows that the expansion of self-employment has increased overall inequality of incomes in the UK.
