Sustaining working lives: a framework for policy and practice

Donald Hirsch et al.

7 April 2005

These papers explore ways in which opportunities in later working life can be improved. This group of papers has been produced as a follow-up to the Foundation’s Transitions after 50 research programme. They explore ways in which choices and opportunities in later working life can be improved. The papers are designed to help policy makers and practitioners think more widely about how working lives can be improved in order to avoid premature exit from the labour force. The first paper, by Donald Hirsch, suggests an overall framework for approaching these issues. It was written following two workshops in late 2004, at which the other papers in this collection were presented and discussed.

A summary of the framework is also available (PDF, 63KB).
