Current work of the JRF Poverty and Disadvantage (PAD) committee

We have eight current R&D programmes:

Income adequacy

Adequate incomes for all is an essential requirement for the eradication of poverty. The projects in this programme, including "A minimum income standard for Britain", will work out what levels of income different families need to live on and assess how benefit levels could change over time.

Education and poverty

This aims to challenge some of the assumptions of the UK educational system and uncover why it continues to fail low-income families and other disadvantaged groups.

Resources in later life (RILL)

How do the resources available to people compare to what they need in order to escape poverty, hardship and disadvantage in later life?

RILL aims to identify policy and practice responses to help create stable foundations for financial security. The focus is poverty among older people now and the barriers that need to be overcome to alleviate it.

Understanding how to do this involves exploring how social, personal and financial resources help meet the aspirations of older people and how economic needs change throughout later life.
