Spam emails offering JRF funding

Several people have contacted us recently (September 2007) regarding emails they have received offering cash grants from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. These emails use our logo and appear as if they have been sent by us.

  • These emails are fraudulent.
  • The Joseph Rowntree Foundation does not make cash grants.
  • Do not reply to these emails (doing so could increase the amount of spam you receive).

How to identify one of these emails

The link below offers an example of one of these emails:

Note the 'From' address at the top of the message:

Spammers can easily manipulate the 'From' address to show any email address they want, but - unlike in the above examples - messages sent by the JRF will usually use one of the following:

  • name@jrf.org.uk
  • name@jrht.org.uk
  • name@hartriggoaks.org.uk
  • name@socialevils.org.uk
