Amahra Spence
Artist, organiser, designer for social justice movements and spatial practitioner
In 2020, MAIA created YARD, a community hub and residency space in Birmingham and are currently raising capital to establish a hotel, ABUELOS, which will redistribute the cultural sector’s hospitality spend into creative social infrastructure that meets the artistic, spiritual and material needs of local people.
Outside of MAIA, Amahra is also the organiser of The Black Land + Spatial Justice Project (2020 - present), which amplifies and invests in the wisdoms, creations and possibilities from Black imaginations for land and spatial justice.
