Centre for Policy Studies: Going for Growth Conference

Zoom Webinar
Friday 11 September 2020 -
16:15 to 17:15

The panel considered what past cycles of recession and recovery can teach us about how to protect people hardest hit by the pandemic, whilst reshaping a stronger economy for all of us, exploring questions such as

  • What useful lessons can we heed from the past 40 years of recession and recovery?
  • Which of our recent responses to the pandemic have had greatest impact and should be carried forward?
  • How do we make sure those people and places that were left behind in previous recoveries aren't left behind in this one?
  • Does the government have to choose between economic growth and levelling up, or can it do both?

Panellists were:

  • Guy Opperman, MP, Minister for Pensions and Financial Inclusion
  • Nick King, Head of Business Policy, Centre for Policy Studies (Chair)
