The future of work: contributions to the debate

Pam Meadows

More people are employed in Britain now than at any time in the past, yet millions who would like to work do not have a job - not only the unemployed, but lone parents, those with long-term health problems and many people who have taken early retirement.

The JRF Inquiry Into Income and Wealth published last year demonstrated the particularly strong link in Britain between employment and the economic welfare of individual households.

The Foundation is therefore launching a new programme on work, guided by Pam Meadows, Director of the Policy Studies Institute. To launch this programme, a number of new papers on the subject have been brought together in a JRF publication and summarised here.
