Home-owners response to a repair and maintenance service

Sheila Mackintosh and Philip Leather

As home-ownership levels nationally approach the 70% level there is a need for home-owners to have access to services which help with minor repairs and on-going property maintenance.

A pioneering attempt by two housing associations to set up a comprehensive repair and maintenance service in Walsall failed primarily because potential customers regarded the service as too expensive or could not afford the cost. Sheila Mackintosh and Philip Leather of SAUS monitored the Home and Dry Property Care Service over its three-year lifespan from 1991-93.
