Older people speaking out: Developing opportunities for influence

This study reviews opportunities for older people to have a say and influence their environment, services that affect them, and the society they live in.

Drawing extensively on published research and work in progress, it examines the limitations of ‘top-down’ initiatives to involve older people and the dilemmas facing older people’s organisations trying to have an influence.

It reviews the issues in which older people are becoming involved and the methods of involvement. It asks which older people are missing out and considers how opportunities for them to have their say might be developed. An extensive bibliography references essential reading for practitioners, researchers and policy makers.
