'Rich mix': Inclusive strategies for urban regeneration

Sue Brownill and Jane Darke

Through a review of existing policy, practice and research, this report argues that recognising community diversity - in particular race and gender should be a major strategic issue for area regeneration.

Issues of gender and ethnic diversity should not be seen as a problem for regeneration policies, agencies or professionals, conclude the authors, but as an opportunity. The rich mix that results from such a perspective - although not without its difficulties and conflicts - can release untapped resources and potential.
