The book features essays from a wide range of contributors, including trustees, colleagues, politicians and leading authorities on priority issues for the Foundation – children and families, disability, poverty, race and equality, neighbourhood renewal and housing. These chapters highlight key areas where the Foundation, under Richard Best’s Direction, has left its mark on policy and practice; and also suggests issues and challenges for the Foundation and Richard to address in the next few years.

Richard Best’s retirement from the Foundation at the end of 2006 marked the end of an era in its history. This collection of essays demonstrates the affection and respect with which he is held, and provides an overview of the issues he pursued with energy and enthusiasm during his time at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
