A framework for supported employment
Supported employment is widely recognised as a major way of helping disabled people get and sustain work.
However, in the UK, supported employment is not yet delivering its full potential, at least in part due to a wider social policy framework that fails to accommodate this approach.
At a time when the Government has announced plans to modernise its Supported Employment Programme and local authorities are developing ‘Welfare to Work’ Joint Investment Plans, this report outlines a framework for a new approach. It pulls together the key components of the existing system and identifies what policies, structures and skills need to be in place. The findings are based on wide consultation with relevant organisations and individuals from the UK and abroad.
