Funding

We fund and work in partnership with a range of organisations, collectives and individuals in pursuit of our mission.

Our current approach to funding

JRF’s external grants are largely tied to specific projects under our 3 pathways of change. From 2025 we want to make more unrestricted grants, putting an additional £50 million to £100 million behind our mission-focused work over the coming 5-10 years.

Most of our funding is by invitation but we occasionally issue calls for proposals below.

Call for proposals: the costs of social care in Scotland

JRF invites proposals for a project exploring the costs of social care in Scotland. This work is part of our programme examining the relationship between poverty, disability, and social care services and charges.

We are seeking a skilled consultant or team to deliver research across 3 key areas:

  • A review of social care charging in Scotland over the past decade, synthesising key evidence.
  • Stakeholder interviews with Local Authorities and COSLA to understand policies and decision-making processes.
  • Qualitative research to explore the real-life impact of social care costs on disabled people and their families.

This project will help highlight the barriers, opportunities, and trade-offs to reforming social care charges, particularly for low-income households. It will run from January to April 2025, with a budget of up to £20,000.

Applications close Monday 16 December 2024.
